World of Asphalt 2010 Breaks Records!

web---network1.jpgThe World of Asphalt 2010 Show & Conference has just concluded a record-breaking run despite the lingering downturn, with packed exhibit aisles and education sessions. Positive energy on the show floor and in the education sessions belied the still-fragile economy. Even in the snowy conditions found in Cincinnati during Show week, industry professionals knew this was where to plan for the future, find the equipment and products they’ll need, and get the latest the education to maximize their productivity.

The show, held February 15-18, 2010 at the Duke Energy Center in downtown Cincinnati, posted record numbers for registrants, amount of exhibit space, and number of education session tickets purchased. World of Asphalt was again co-located with AGG1 Aggregates Forum & Expo, and both show saw significant gains.

APA Announces New Industry Unity, New Campaign

At a press conference during World of Asphalt, The Asphalt Pavement Alliance announced a historic degree of industry unity and simultaneously launched its new campaign in support of asphalt pavements.

“APA is a great partnership between the SAPAs, the AI, and NAPA,” said David Yates, Chairman of the State Asphalt Pavement Associations (SAPA) group. “The Alliance has teams working in all the right areas, and the SAPAs have people all over the U.S. – different climates, different terrain, different circumstances – who will be delivering the messages at the grassroots.”

The unveiling of the new Alliance campaign included a policy white paper, a comprehensive technical document on Perpetual Pavements, a new Web site at www.AsphaltRoads.org, and a new tagline and imagery.

More than 780 individuals participated in the NAPA Annual Meeting that was held January 17-20 in Maui. By all accounts, the meeting was a great success. "I expect our Members learned a lot by coming to the annual meeting, said NAPA 2010 Chairman Larry Lemon. "Those who participate in NAPA events are always ahead of their competition.  Learning from others is a lot cheaper than making the mistakes yourself." Attendees at the event heard from keynote speakers Chris Gardner, author of The Pursuit of Happyness, and key NAPA Members and staff on the state of the industry. At the opening session, outgoing Chairman Jim Weeks, Colas Inc., Ohio summarized the challenges and accomplishments of the previous year before turning the gavel over to new Chairman Larry Lemon of Haskell Lemon Construction Co., Oklahoma. Lemon's chairmanship will focus on member recruitment.

NAPA 2009 Awards

The National Asphalt Pavement Association’s Awards Program recognizes those in our industry who achieve excellence. NAPA awards are meaningful for the winners because they are bestowed by peers, but publicity reaches far beyond the NAPA membership. Winners are highlighted in industry publications throughout the country and recognized for the quality work they are doing. 2009 award winners were recognized at the NAPA Annual Meeting.
